Eyewitness Reveals What Happened Before MP Denar Hamisi’s Fatal Karen Road Crash
Nominated MP Denar Hamisi Joseph has died following a road accident outside his home in Karen, with a key eyewitness providing a detailed account of the events leading up to the tragedy.
The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, December 6, when Hamisi was reportedly driving alone. According to witnesses, his white SUV suddenly lost control, veered off the road and landed in a ditch before coming to a stop against a tree.
Local resident Mathew Owire, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said it was immediately clear that the crash had been severe. “I arrived and found him unconscious and unable to respond,” he told reporters. “I called on my colleagues to help pull him out of the vehicle, but the door was jammed. By the time police got there, we had already taken him out, and the officers then took charge of the situation.”
Police later cordoned off the area and transported the damaged vehicle to a station as part of ongoing investigations into what caused the car to lose control.
The National Assembly was formally notified of Hamisi’s death by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who confirmed the MP passed away shortly after 7am. In his statement, Wetang’ula paid tribute to the legislator, describing him as a principled and hardworking public servant.
“He will be fondly remembered for his humility and steadfast commitment to service to the nation,” Wetang’ula said. “His passing is a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation at large. On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, I convey heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar.”
Hamisi, who hailed from Mombasa County, entered Parliament through the former Amani National Congress (ANC) party under the leadership of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. Colleagues consistently praised him for his measured approach to national issues and focus on community welfare.
Speaker Wetang’ula also announced that burial arrangements will be coordinated by a parliamentary committee working closely with the family. The team will be chaired by Kilifi North MP and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya.
Further updates on funeral plans and the ongoing police inquiry are expected in the coming days.
