Githunguri MP Claims Rigathi Gachagua Spent KSh 130m on Bulletproof Cars Using Diaspora Funds
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of exploiting his supporters and punishing political dissenters.
Once a loyalist in Gachagua’s camp, Wamuchomba has in recent months been increasingly vocal against the Deputy President, alleging that he is intolerant of anyone who disagrees with his political stance.
In a detailed Facebook post, the MP claimed Gachagua incites his followers against leaders who differ with him and treats his supporters as mere tools for personal gain.
“He has been attacking and abusing every leader who does not support his tribal narratives and venom. He has created political enemies in every county of the mountain, including Machakos. To defend himself; he’s now inciting innocent voters to defend him with ‘Rungus’. He’s moving around wearing a helmet and bulletproof vest, yet his handlers have none,” Wamuchomba said.
The MP further alleged that Gachagua targeted his supporters for financial enrichment while ignoring their welfare. She cited the Deputy President’s tour of the United States in August last year, where he reportedly solicited money from the Kenyan diaspora.
“When he travelled to the US, he was given over KSh 600 million. He bought two brand-new bulletproof four-wheelers worth 65 million each, a sound and jammer system, and paid all his personal and family debts,” Wamuchomba claimed.
According to her, Gachagua failed to support supporters who suffered during political rallies, many of whom were injured in confrontations with police.
“For the record, he didn’t share any dollar with his injured gallants or repair our vehicles that were damaged as we defended him in Olkalau, Naivasha and other areas where we were attacked together. In fact, when his close associates were arrested and put in cells, he abandoned them and went to the USA for a mugithi concert, ‘Ngemi’, a trip he could have postponed to bury the dead first. He left an MP, a female and a male youth leader and other ardent followers detained in Kahawa cells,” she added.
The comments mark a significant escalation in the feud between the two politicians, highlighting deep divisions within the DPC leadership. Analysts suggest Wamuchomba’s attacks could influence the political calculus in Mount Kenya, a region critical in shaping national political alliances.
