Ruto Names the Government Officer He Speaks to Every Night Before Sleeping
President Ruto disclosed that he often speaks to Digital Health Authority CEO Tonny Lenaiyara before retiring for the night, underscoring the importance of digital health reforms in his administration.
President William Ruto has revealed that the final government official he communicates with before going to bed is Tonny Lenaiyara, the Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Health Authority.
Ruto made the revelation on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during a church service at the ACK All Saints Pro-Cathedral Church in Maralal, Samburu County. He praised Samburu County for producing what he described as “dedicated and hardworking public servants,” several of whom hold top government positions.
“You (Samburu) have a good young man, Tonny Lenaiyara,” Ruto said. “He works with me on SHA matters. The last person I speak to before I sleep is this young man. Every night at 10 p.m., he sends me updates on the progress of SHA.”
Lenaiyara, who heads the Digital Health Authority, plays a central role in implementing the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme. His responsibilities include driving the digitisation of healthcare systems, improving data coordination, and integrating technology across hospitals to enhance patient care.
According to Ruto, such initiatives are part of his broader plan to digitise government services and promote efficiency across all sectors.
The president also used the occasion to recognise several other senior officials from Samburu who have taken up key government roles. Among them are Bernice Sialaal Lemedeket, Accounting Officer at the National Police Service; Michael Lenasalon, Principal Secretary for Devolution; Richard Lesiyampe, CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital; Raphael Lekolool, CEO of Postbank; and Peter Lengapiani, CEO of Uwezo Fund.
Ruto said he had held discussions with the National Treasury to allocate funds for improving roads in Maralal town and major highways connecting Samburu to neighbouring counties. He commended the county’s contribution to national development and urged continued partnership between local and national leaders.
