Video of Chebukati Alleging Slain Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu Stormed Office Over Election Results Emerges
A resurfaced video of former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati has brought back into focus slain Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was killed in a fatal shooting along Lang’ata Road recently.
In the footage, Chebukati recounts a bizarre late-night encounter with Mbobu and two high-profile individuals just hours before the 2022 presidential election results were announced.
Speaking during the IEBC Tribunal hearing on January 24, 2023, Chebukati said around 3am on August 15, 2022, he was woken up in the commission’s holding room by staff who told him of uninvited guests seeking an urgent audience.
“They just walked in without notice. I was asleep on my chair,” Chebukati said.
The visitors were former Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju, former Attorney General and ex-Senator Amos Wako and lawyer Mbobu. According to Chebukati, the trio explained they wanted to discuss the counting of votes and the election process.
“Raphael Tuju, representing Azimio, was the first to speak. Senator Amos Wako followed and the third man introduced himself as Advocate Kyalo Mbobu. They said they wanted to talk to us on the counting and election operations,” Chebukati said.
Feeling the gravity of the situation, Chebukati said he immediately called all the commissioners so he wouldn’t meet them alone.
“I did not want to meet them at 3am, especially since there were three of them and they wanted to talk about elections,” he said. “In every matter relating to elections, I involve all the commissioners.”

This video has brought back into focus Mbobu’s political and legal involvements and shed new light on his connections just days after his death. His killing has sparked widespread calls for answers and speculation is growing whether his history of involvement in high-stakes legal and political cases may have contributed to his death.
