Bishop Kiengei Donates Ambulance to TikTokers’ Planned Community Hospital
Muthee Kiengei aka JCM Bishop has donated an ambulance to the upcoming hospital project by Kenyan TikTokers. This comes after the online campaign to build a community hospital inspired by the story of Kaluma Boy, a 17-year-old content creator who went viral for highlighting his father’s struggle with a stroke.
Hundreds of Kenyans recently went to Othaya, Nyeri County to show support to the young TikToker and his ailing father. The online movement soon turned into a plan by content creators to build a hospital that would cater for such families.
During a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, October 5, Bishop Kiengei confirmed that the ambulance purchased in June has already been used to transport and care for Kaluma Boy’s father. He also announced that the vehicle will now be the first asset of the proposed TikTok Community Hospital.
“Some of the changes we are seeing in Kenya are because young people are using their phones positively. I want to thank all Kenyan TikTokers for standing with Kaluma Boy,” Kiengei said.
“We sent our ambulance to help his father and it will now be the first property of the hospital you are building. Those who asked me why I bought it have now seen its purpose,” he added.
The initiative has also received praise from senior government officials. Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, called the TikTokers’ project a “brilliant idea” in line with President William Ruto’s vision for affordable healthcare in Kenya.
“Kenyans have built hospitals before through community efforts. If TikTokers can come together and build another one, that’s amazing. Such creativity and collaboration should be encouraged,” Itumbi said.
Bishop Kiengei said Kaluma Boy’s story shows how social media when used positively can inspire national development and social change among the youth.
During the same Thanksgiving service, he also announced that Kaluma Boy has been awarded a full scholarship to East African University where he will pursue a degree in Sales and Marketing with a focus on digital marketing. “Dr. Christopher Mutembei, East African University VC has confirmed that Kaluma Boy has been awarded a full scholarship. He will study Sales and Marketing to improve his digital communication,” Kiengei said.
The movement is gaining momentum online with Kenyans commending Kiengei and the TikTokers for making a real impact beyond the screens.
