Gachagua Forms Team to Pursue ICC Case Against President Ruto
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the formation of a team to gather evidence against President William Ruto to file a case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Speaking in Seattle, Washington State, on Friday, Gachagua accused Ruto’s government of committing crimes that fall under the ICC’s jurisdiction. He listed killings, abductions, displacements and forced disappearances as the key offenses being documented.
“I want to confirm that I have put up a team that is documenting all the atrocities, the killings, displacements, disappearances and abductions taking place in Kenya,” Gachagua said. “We have a team that is putting evidence together to take William Ruto to the ICC at The Hague.”
Gachagua also claimed Ruto’s earlier ICC case on the 2007 post election violence was not solved but was suspended because the witnesses disappeared. He said his team is working to make sure the new case is built on stronger grounds.
Gachagua noted that many Kenyans are living in fear. He referenced a report by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) which recorded over 30 deaths during the recent Saba Saba protests. The protests saw violent confrontations between protesters and police in Nairobi and other counties. KNCHR also alleged police colluded with armed gangs wielding machetes and spears.
In response to the reports Gachagua called on Kenyans abroad to support the efforts to hold Ruto accountable and push for change.
“That is a battle I would like to invite you to join. We have no other option to save our country than to send Ruto home. We must all play a role, you cannot be silent, you must play a role in the liberation of our country,” he said.
Gachagua is currently in the US to drum up support for his Wantam agenda.
