Ichung’wah: Gachagua Sent Goons to Kill My Father and Burn My Home

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah has sensationally accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating violent attacks targeting his family and government facilities in Kiambu County during the height of the 2025 anti-Finance Bill protests.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Thursday, April 9, the Kikuyu MP alleged that the former Deputy President sponsored organised groups to carry out coordinated attacks in Kikuyu Constituency on June 26, 2025.

According to Ichung’wah, the alleged attackers targeted multiple government installations, including his National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office, county government offices, and the local law courts, which were set ablaze during the unrest.

“On June 26, 2025, he organised goons who came and burnt our offices, the county government offices in Kikuyu. Our law court and county government offices were burnt down,” Ichung’wah told the House.

The legislator went further, claiming that the attackers attempted to storm his private residence and harm members of his family, including his elderly father.

“They attempted to come and burn down my own home. That was the day he also sent people to attempt to kill my father, who was then 105 years old,” he added.

The allegations relate to incidents reported during widespread youth-led protests against the controversial 2025 Finance Bill, which saw destruction of property in several parts of the country, including the burning of a court building in Kiambu.

Ichung’wah’s claims come just a day after Gachagua publicly accused him of sponsoring violence at political rallies in the Mount Kenya region. Speaking during the funeral of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho on Wednesday, April 8, Gachagua alleged that the Majority Leader had been deploying hired groups to disrupt opposition gatherings.

In a swift rebuttal, Ichung’wah dismissed the accusations as baseless and described them as “reverse psychology,” questioning the logic behind claims that he would orchestrate attacks against his own property and family.

“Why would anyone organise chaos to destroy their own offices and endanger their own family?” he posed.

The Majority Leader also took issue with remarks made by Gachagua during the funeral, where the former Deputy President criticised National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for allowing MPs to mention his name in the House without a substantive motion.

Ichung’wah accused Gachagua of attempting to incite mourners against the Speaker, warning that such conduct undermines the dignity of Parliament.

“He works with reverse psychology, Honourable Speaker. What he was trying to do to you yesterday was to incite the crowd to heckle you,” he said, urging lawmakers to defend the integrity of the House and the Office of the Speaker.

The escalating war of words highlights the deepening political rift between the two leaders, who were once close allies during Gachagua’s tenure as Deputy President. However, following his impeachment in 2024, their relationship deteriorated sharply, with Gachagua accusing President William Ruto of using Ichung’wah to fragment political unity in the Mount Kenya region.
