Inside Natembeya and Matiang’i’s Visit to Peter Munya’s Home — Full Details Revealed

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday, October 8, visited former Agriculture CS Peter Munya to condole with him after the death of his grandmother, Mama Mwakairu Rukunga, popularly known as Bamung’o.

Confirming the visit, Matiang’i said they had gone to comfort Munya and his family after the loss of their matriarch.

“This morning, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and I met with former CS Peter Munya to condole with him after the passing of his grandmother, Mama Mwakairu Rukunga (Bamung’o),” Matiang’i said.

The Party of National Unity (PNU), which Munya leads, had earlier announced the passing of his grandmother on Tuesday, September 30. In its statement, the party described her as a woman of wisdom, strength and influence in her community.

“We condole with our Party Leader, Hon. Peter Munya, EGH, and his family on the passing of their matriarch, Mama Mwakairu Rukunga,” read part of the PNU statement.
“Mama Mwakairu was a pillar of strength and wisdom, whose legacy of love, unity and service will be remembered by those whose lives she touched.”

The statement also eulogized her legacy of compassion and unity, and expressed solidarity with the Munya family during their time of grief.

“As PNU fraternity, we stand with the Munya family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the memories you shared and the impact she had on your lives,” the party added.

Meanwhile, Matiang’i also condoled with the family of Mary Nyachae, daughter of the late Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae. In his message, the former CS eulogized her as a kind and generous woman. “I have just learnt with deep sadness that Mary Nyachae, daughter of the late Mzee Simeon Nyachae has passed on,” he wrote. “My condolences to the Nyachae family and friends. May God give you strength, comfort and grace during this time.”

Mary Nyachae, a former member of the Commodities Board of Trustees, passed away at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi after battling cancer for several weeks.

She was the firstborn of the late Simeon Nyachae who died in February 2021 and the elder sister of lawyer Charles Nyachae, the current Chairman of the Kenya School of Government.

Just a week ago, MP Shah Hospital had appealed for blood donations to help her in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Both Munya and Nyachae families are receiving messages of support and condolence from all over the country as Kenyans mourn the loss of two women whose lives touched many.
