Juja MP George Koimburi Allegedly Poisoned and Tortured, Claims Gachagua

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has allegedly been poisoned with a chemical that has paralysed his vocal cords and left him severely weakened, according to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The claims were made on Monday evening outside the Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where Koimburi is receiving treatment following his reported disappearance and subsequent discovery earlier that day in a coffee farm in Kiambu County.

Speaking to the media, Gachagua revealed that Koimburi is frail, immobile, and unable to speak. He alleged that the MP was subjected to professional torture and was administered chemicals via inhalation during the 18 hours he went missing. The former Deputy President claimed that the attack was orchestrated by individuals acting on orders from senior government officials with the aim of silencing political dissent.

“I have seen him and talked to the doctors. They have confirmed that George Koimburi was tortured by professionals. He has soft tissue injuries, a kind of torture done by professionals. He has lost his voice, and the doctors are working around the clock to restore his vocal cords,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua also alleged that some MPs and government critics have had their security withdrawn in recent days, leaving them exposed. He drew parallels to events in Tanzania involving activists and urged the international community to monitor developments in Kenya closely.

Koimburi was last seen on Friday, May 23, after reportedly evading an attempted arrest while distributing bursaries. His allies have claimed that no formal summons had been issued prior to his disappearance. He was later found on the morning of Monday, May 26, in a weakened state.

This incident follows recent allegations by Gachagua himself that he was the target of a state-led plan to incapacitate him using what he described as “biological armoury.” During a previous address on Monday, May 19, Gachagua claimed that operatives had orders to degrade his mental capacity over a period of three months. He alleged these plans were to be carried out during a church visit in Murang’a County on Sunday, May 18.

As investigations into Koimburi’s condition continue, the accusations have intensified political tensions between government critics and state authorities. No official statement has yet been issued by government agencies regarding Gachagua’s claims. Observers are calling for an independent inquiry into the incident, even as concerns over political repression and human rights gain attention both locally and internationally.
