Kaluma singles out ‘mystery woman’ in Osotsi attack probe as DCI confirms CCTV breakthrough

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has called for a deeper investigation into a woman seen with Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi moments before he was violently attacked in Kisumu, raising fresh questions over the shocking incident.

Speaking on Thursday, April 9, during a session of the National Assembly Administration and Internal Security Committee, Kaluma urged Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed to treat the unidentified woman as a “person of interest” in the ongoing probe.

The DCI boss had appeared before the committee to address plans to revamp the Anti-Narcotics Unit, but the discussion quickly shifted to the high-profile assault that has sparked national debate.

Kaluma pointed to CCTV footage from the restaurant where the attack unfolded, claiming the woman’s actions raised suspicion.

“When you look at the CCTV footage, Senator Osotsi is seen sitting with a very beautiful lady who is seen running out instead of shouting for people to help him,” Kaluma stated.

The lawmaker cautioned against premature conclusions, urging leaders and the public to avoid politicising the matter before investigations are complete.

Meanwhile, Amin confirmed that detectives have already secured CCTV footage from the scene and are actively analysing it. He added that authorities are working closely with members of the public to identify the group of attackers involved in the brazen assault.

The incident, which occurred in broad daylight at a coffee shop in Kisumu, saw an estimated 20 men descend on the senator, leaving him injured in what has been widely condemned across the political divide.

In a separate development, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi dismissed circulating claims that the attack was linked to a romantic dispute, instead insisting it was politically motivated.

“I see some sentiments on social media trying to portray it as a love affair. When these goons were paraded at Kisumu airport, what love affair was there?” Amisi questioned.

Amisi further alleged that the attackers had been deliberately deployed due to Osotsi’s political stance, drawing parallels with previous incidents involving organised groups targeting political figures.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also weighed in, escalating pressure on the government by threatening action against Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

Kalonzo called on President William Ruto to remove Omollo from office and demanded a response from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over the security lapse.

Following the attack, the injured senator was reportedly airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical treatment, underscoring the severity of his injuries.

Authorities, alongside several political leaders, have since condemned the incident, with calls mounting for swift arrests and accountability.

As investigations continue, the focus on the “mystery woman” and the motives behind the attack threatens to deepen an already volatile political debate.
