KASNEB Rolls Out Biometric Registration System Ahead of April 2026 Exams
Something big is changing for KASNEB students.
If you’re sitting for exams soon, you’ll now need more than just your revision papers and ID. The Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) has officially introduced a biometric registration and identification system. And yes — that means facial images and fingerprints will now be part of the process.
It’s a major shift. One that signals tighter security, better verification, and a more controlled examination environment.
But what exactly does this mean for students?
Let’s break it down.
Why KASNEB Is Introducing Biometric Registration
In a notice issued on Monday, February 16, KASNEB confirmed it has developed a Biometric Registration and Identification System (BRIS). The goal? To strengthen integrity and streamline exam administration.
And the board didn’t mince its words.
“KASNEB is dedicated to enhancing the examination experience and upholding the highest standards of integrity, accuracy and security in its examinations. To this end, KASNEB has developed a Biometric Registration and Identification System (BRIS) specifically for KASNEB students,” the notice read.
In simple terms — they want to eliminate impersonation, reduce errors, and tighten identification during exams.
The system will securely store each candidate’s unique biometric data. That includes facial recognition and fingerprint capture. It’s meant to make verification faster and more reliable, especially during examination days when things can get a little chaotic.
Who Will Be Affected First?
The rollout won’t happen all at once.
KASNEB says it will begin with selected Computer Based Examinations (CBE). If you’re enrolled in any of these courses, this applies to you:
- Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills (CAMS)
- Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD)
- Certified Credit Professional (CCP)
- Certified Quality Professional (CQP)
- Certified Forensic Fraud Examiner (CFFE)
- Certified Public Finance Manager (CPFM)
The registration won’t be online. You’ll need to show up physically.
“The biometric registration exercise will be conducted physically at designated centers, commencing on Monday, 16 February 2026,” the notice stated.
Yes, physically. So plan ahead.
What Students Must Bring
There’s no shortcut here.
Students are required to appear in person at designated centers. You must carry valid identification — either a National ID or a passport. No exceptions.
Before your biometric data is collected, you’ll also be required to complete and sign a consent form. This is in line with data protection regulations. So, your rights are part of the process too.
KASNEB addressed privacy concerns directly.
“KASNEB will capture biometric features, including a facial image and at least two fingerprints, to ensure secure and reliable identification throughout the examination cycle,” the board said.
And further assured candidates:
“All biometric data will be handled with strict confidentiality and used solely for examination administration and related official purposes,” KASNEB assured.
That last line matters. In an era where data privacy conversations are everywhere, reassurance is key.
April 2026 Examination Schedule Already Out
This biometric move comes just weeks after KASNEB released its April 2026 examination timetable.
In a notice dated Tuesday, January 13, the board confirmed exams will run from Monday, April 20, 2026, to Thursday, April 23, 2026 — a four-day assessment window.
The exams will cover a wide range of professional and technical qualifications. Among them:
- Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills
- Accounting Technicians Diploma
- Diploma in Data Management and Analytics
- Diploma in Computer Networks and Systems Administration
- Diploma in Quality Management
- Certified Public Accountants
- Certified Public Accountants in Public Finance
- Certified Investment and Financial Analysts
- Certified Credit Professionals
- Certified Information Systems Solutions Expert
- Certified Forensic Fraud Examiner
- Certified Public Finance Manager
- Vocational Certificate in Supply
- Vocational Certificate in Information Communication Technology
- Certified Procurement and Supply Professional of Kenya
- Associate in Procurement and Supply of Kenya
- Certified Quality Professional
- Business Data Analytics Practical Paper
- Financial Modelling and Data Analytics Practice Paper
It’s a packed schedule. And now, it comes with a new layer of identity verification.
What This Means for Students
Let’s be honest. Change can feel uncomfortable.
Biometric systems may sound intimidating at first. Fingerprints. Facial scans. Physical verification. It’s new territory for many candidates.
But from KASNEB’s perspective, this is about credibility. About protecting the value of its qualifications. About ensuring that the person who registers is the same person who sits the exam.
And in professional certification, integrity is everything.
Details about venues, timelines, and specific requirements will be communicated directly to affected students and institutions. So, if you’re enrolled in the listed courses, keep an eye on official communication.
This isn’t just a system update.
It’s a structural shift in how examinations are administered in Kenya’s professional certification space.
And whether students welcome it or not — it’s here.
