Kenya Blackout Alert: Kenya Power Announces Power Outages in 7 Counties on Wednesday
Residents across Kenya are bracing for disruptions as Kenya Power announces scheduled power cuts affecting parts of seven counties on Wednesday, April 8.
In an official notice released on Tuesday, April 7, Kenya Power stated that the planned electricity interruptions are part of routine maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, aimed at enhancing service reliability. The outages are expected to last anywhere between three and nine hours, depending on the county and area affected.
Nairobi County:
In Nairobi, residents of Parklands will face a blackout from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected areas include Kapande Road, Ngara Road, Stima Sacco, sections of Westlands Road, Kipkabus Road, the Museum of Kenya, Chemelil Road, and surrounding customers. Kenya Power urged residents and businesses to plan accordingly to minimize disruption.
Kericho County:
In the Rift Valley, residents of Kipchimchim and Ainamoi will experience power loss from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Key locations affected include Kenya Highlands University, Nyagacho Market, Toror Tea Factory, Taiwet Tea Factory, Ainamoi Market, Laliat, Gogul Quarry, West Valley Quarry, and nearby areas. Kenya Power spokesperson John Mwangi said, “These outages are essential to ensure our networks are safe and reliable. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
Uasin Gishu County:
In the North Rift region, Wounifor and surrounding areas, including Katuiyo and Chepkongony Secondary School, will experience interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Kisumu County:
Under Western Kenya, the Ojola Pundo area will face a power outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The blackout will cover Ojola Pundo, River Side Hotel, Pundo Village, and adjacent neighborhoods.
Nyamira County:
In South Nyanza, parts of Nyamira County—including Nyansiongo, Manga, and Eronge—will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Notable locations impacted include Nyansiongo Mission, Manga Market, Eronge Boarding, Laitigo, Kamukunji Kebuse, Changwani, Etangi, Kahawa Secondary, Nyansiongo Boys, Highland Creamers, Kijauri Roche, and nearby areas.
Nyeri County:
In the Mt. Kenya region, Nyeri County will experience multiple scheduled outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Locations affected include Kiganjo Town, Chaka Town, Nyaribu, Mweiga Brooms, Ikumari, Kiawara, Lamuria, Nairutia, Ngobit, Mahiga Meru, Tumutumu, Mathaithi, Kiamaina, Ichuga, Ngandu Girls, Mathira Technical, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Taita Taveta County:
At the Coast, Maungu residents will face a shorter disruption from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., impacting Maungu Town and nearby customers.
Kenya Power urged all affected residents to take precautionary measures, including switching off sensitive electrical appliances and preparing for potential inconvenience. The company emphasized that such maintenance work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Kenya’s power grid and ensure long-term reliability.
