Shocking Footage Shows Moment Kenyan Senator Is Pounced on in Hotel Attack
Shocking CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment Godfrey Osotsi was violently attacked at a Java House outlet in Kisumu, raising fresh concerns over political safety and targeted violence.
The footage, recorded inside the restaurant, captures two men launching a sustained and coordinated assault on the Vihiga Senator in what witnesses have described as a disturbing early morning incident.
According to the surveillance video, the attackers — one dressed in a black t-shirt and cap, and another in a white hoodie and cargo pants — are seen repeatedly kicking and striking the legislator as he lies on the ground.
In one particularly alarming moment, the man in the cap is seen striking Osotsi on the head while he is already down, with visible signs of injury. The second attacker later joins in, unleashing a series of kicks as the senator attempts to crawl away to safety within the restaurant.
A member of staff is briefly seen trying to intervene, but is forced to retreat after being threatened by one of the assailants. The attackers continue the assault, overpowering the senator despite his efforts to escape.
The incident only comes to an end after multiple staff members step in and manage to stop the attackers following a prolonged struggle.
Orengo: “This Was Not Random Violence”
Reacting to the incident, James Orengo strongly condemned the attack, terming it a calculated and deliberate act rather than a случайный outbreak of violence.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, Orengo said:
“The barbaric, early morning ambush on Linda Mwananchi Principal and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House, Western Mall in Kisumu, is a disgusting display of cowardice. Make no mistake, this was not a random act of violence.”
The governor linked the incident to what he described as a broader pattern of targeted intimidation, pointing to a previous assault at another venue.
“This is a clearly coordinated and organized pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing the voices of the people, coming as a second direct hit after the violent assault at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel on the eve of our Kakamega Rally,” he added.
Calls for Immediate Action
Orengo has now called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly, urging authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted without delay.
“We demand that the police immediately produce the CCTV footage from Java House and ensure the culprits are brought to book without further delay,” he stated.
He further warned against attempts to inflame ethnic tensions, particularly between communities in the region.
“Organizing this hit in the heart of Kisumu is a desperate and primitive attempt to incite tribal warfare between the Luo and Luhya communities, but we see through these dirty divide and rule tactics,” Orengo said.
Despite the attack, the governor maintained that the political movement associated with the senator would not be deterred.
“These cowardly acts will not stop us. To the planners and their goons, you are wasting your time because you cannot kill an idea whose time has come. Linda Mwananchi is a movement of the people, and this movement is unstoppable,” he concluded.
