This weekend, Kenyans have the opportunity to visit some of the country’s most beautiful natural attractions without paying an entry fee.

In celebration of World Tourism Day 2025, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced that all its managed national parks, reserves and sanctuaries will be open to the public for free entry on Saturday, September 27.

Among the parks and reserves included in this initiative are Aberdare National Park in Nyeri and Nyandarua, Amboseli National Park in Kajiado, Chyulu Hills National Park in Kibwezi, Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha, and Mount Kenya National Park in Nyeri, Nanyuki and Chogoria.

Other popular destinations offering free access are Kakamega Forest National Reserve, Kisumu Impala Sanctuary, Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve, Mombasa Marine National Park & Reserve, Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, and Ruma National Park.

In Nairobi, you can visit Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Safari Walk, and Nairobi Animal Orphanage for free. Coastal and marine sites like Watamu Marine National Park & Reserve, Kiunga Marine National Reserve, and Kisite Mpunguti National Park & Reserve are also included.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the initiative is to allow Kenyans to reconnect with the country’s wildlife heritage and to foster a greater appreciation for conservation.

“By opening the gates to these iconic spaces, we want to inspire a shared responsibility to protect Kenya’s rich biodiversity for generations to come,” Miano said. She encouraged citizens to go, learn and celebrate the wonders of Kenya’s natural treasures.

Also, the National Museums of Kenya announced that all museums, historical sites and monuments across the country will be open for free on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 for Kenyan citizens only.

From the landscapes of Tsavo East and West, the marine wonders of Watamu and Kiunga, to cultural insights at museums nationwide, this weekend is a rare opportunity for Kenyans to experience the country’s natural and cultural heritage for free.
