AAR Hospital Responds to Allegations of Turning Away Gospel Singer Betty Bayo Before Her Death
AAR Hospital has issued a formal statement addressing a wave of social media allegations claiming the facility failed to treat gospel singer Betty Bayo prior to her death. The hospital, located along Kiambu Road in Nairobi, has found itself at the centre of online speculation following the artist’s passing earlier this week.
In a clarification released on Wednesday, 13 November, the hospital expressed its condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the late musician, who died on 10 November after battling acute myeloid leukaemia. The management described the online allegations as “inaccurate and misleading,” insisting that the singer had received appropriate medical attention during her time at the facility.
“AAR wishes to clarify that the deceased was admitted to our facility for two days, during which she received emergency and critical care and her diagnosis was confirmed,” the hospital said in its statement.
According to the medical centre, Betty Bayo was admitted earlier this month, where clinicians stabilised her condition and carried out an initial assessment. The hospital said that after these procedures, the singer and her family chose to transfer her to another medical institution for specialised treatment.
Hospital officials acknowledged that they were aware of several claims circulating across social media platforms but declined to specify which ones they were disputing. They maintained that much of the information being shared by the public did not reflect the actual sequence of events.
“We are aware of various claims circulating on social media regarding this case and we appreciate the public’s concern,” the statement noted. “However, many of the reports currently in circulation are inaccurate and misleading.”
The hospital further stressed that its ability to respond in detail was restricted by medical confidentiality rules, a standard practice intended to protect patient privacy. “Out of respect for the patient’s confidentiality and in line with medical ethics, we are unable to share personal or clinical details,” the management added.
Betty Bayo, widely respected in the gospel music community, succumbed to complications related to acute myeloid leukaemia, a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. News of her death has sparked widespread grief and prompted numerous fans and public figures to call for clarity on her final days.
AAR Hospital said it would continue cooperating with the family and relevant authorities if further medical clarification is required through proper channels.
