American Citizen Stabbed to Death in Garissa as Family Calls for Immediate Arrest

American Citizen of Somali Origin Stabbed to Death in Garissa as Family Demands Justice

A 25-year-old American citizen of Somali origin has been stabbed to death in Garissa County, in what relatives describe as a shocking daylight attack that has left a family mourning and a community demanding answers.

The victim, who had travelled from the United States to visit relatives in Kenya, was killed in Bula Mzuri village under circumstances that residents say have exposed growing security concerns in the area.

According to witnesses, the fatal attack occurred in broad daylight, a fact that has stunned locals and sparked outrage among family members who are questioning how such a violent crime could take place in full view of the public.

“He was stabbed in broad daylight, and that is what has left everyone in complete shock. We cannot understand how such a violent act could happen so openly in the middle of the day,” one resident said.

The victim’s relatives claim the suspected attacker is a known gang member who has allegedly terrorised residents in Bula Mzuri village for years. They further allege that despite providing authorities with the suspect’s identity, no arrest had been made three days after the incident.

Speaking on behalf of the family, one relative expressed frustration over what they described as a slow response from law enforcement agencies.

“It’s really disappointing to know that for the last three days nothing has been done while we already fronted the name of the suspect, who is a criminal and is well known in those areas,” the family member said.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the local community, with friends and relatives remembering the deceased as a hardworking and respectful young man who maintained close ties with his Kenyan roots despite living abroad.

Family members described him as a role model to younger siblings and a person who was deeply committed to supporting both relatives and members of his community.

“We are here demanding justice for him. The entire family is here, the entire community is here. He was a great kid, a role model for his siblings and an amazing person,” another relative said.

The family is now calling on security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to justice without delay.

As pressure mounts, neither local security officials nor the U.S. government had publicly commented on the case at the time of publication.

The incident has also renewed concerns about gang-related violence in parts of Garissa County. Previous reports by the National Crime Research Centre have identified the region as one of several areas grappling with youth gangs involved in robberies, extortion and violent attacks.

Groups such as Squad Chafu, formerly known as Hori Moyan, and the Gaza Family have previously been linked to criminal activities in parts of the county, with authorities conducting periodic crackdowns aimed at dismantling their operations.

Residents are now urging law enforcement officers to intensify efforts against criminal gangs, warning that failure to act could leave communities increasingly vulnerable to violent crime.

Investigations into the killing remain ongoing.
