Babu Owino Hospitalised? MP Breaks Silence After Social Media Panic Over Illness
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has broken his silence amid swirling rumours that he had fallen ill and been admitted to a Nairobi hospital.
On Saturday, December 13, social media platforms were awash with speculation that the outspoken legislator was hospitalised, with little official information available to confirm or dispel the reports.
In a brief statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) just after noon, Owino sought to reassure the public. “Fellow Kenyans, I sincerely appreciate your concern and care. I am recovering well,” he wrote, drawing hundreds of reactions from supporters, colleagues, and concerned citizens wishing him a swift recovery.
The statement appears to confirm earlier reports suggesting that the 39-year-old MP had been unwell, ending days of uncertainty surrounding his health.

Owino’s health update comes shortly after a period of intense political activity. Less than a week earlier, on Sunday, December 7, the Embakasi East MP held a series of rallies across the Nyanza region, visiting Nyando, Muhoroni, and Rarieda constituencies.
At his first stop in Nyando, Owino urged residents to channel frustration into renewed determination. Later, in Awasi, Muhoroni, he described the gatherings as a moment of national awakening. “There comes a moment in the life of every nation when the people rise, not out of anger, but out of hope. Not because they seek conflict, but because they demand dignity. Today, we stand in such a moment,” he told the crowd.
The tour concluded in Rarieda Constituency, where Owino encouraged persistence despite challenges, telling supporters that change could not be silenced or reversed.
Owino, who is widely regarded as an aspirant for the Nairobi governorship, had remained silent amid the speculation, prompting heightened concern among his supporters. His brief public message on Saturday has now provided some clarity, reassuring Kenyans that he is on the mend.
The rumours surrounding his health emerged on the same day that former politician Cyrus Jirongo tragically died in a car accident, adding to a tense and emotional atmosphere on social media.
As Kenyans continue to react online, Owino’s office has not provided further details on the nature of his illness or the duration of his recovery.
