Babu Owino Named Kenya’s Best-Performing MP, Credits God and Service

Babu Owino Credits God, Service and Vision After Emerging Kenya’s Best-Performing MP in Infotrak Survey
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has credited his faith in God, commitment to service delivery and visionary leadership after being ranked Kenya’s best-performing legislator in the latest CountyTrak Performance Index 2026 released by Infotrak Research and Consulting.

The survey, unveiled on Wednesday, placed the outspoken lawmaker at the top of the national rankings with an approval rating of 80 per cent, making him the highest-rated Member of Parliament in the country based on public perception of performance.

Reacting to the findings, Babu described the recognition as a victory for the people of Embakasi East rather than a personal achievement, saying their trust and support had inspired his work since assuming office.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for giving me this chance to lead the great people of Embakasi East Constituency. To the people of Embakasi East, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are a family, and I will always work for you,” he said.

The MP argued that true leadership is measured by the impact a leader has on people’s lives rather than by titles or political office.

“Leadership is not about position. Leadership is not about titles. Leadership is not about power. Leadership is about service delivery, courage, vision and responsibility. As a leader, I always ask myself, ‘What can I give to the people, not what can I gain?'”

Babu said his administration had remained focused on transforming livelihoods through development projects, accessibility and accountability, insisting that elected leaders must constantly prioritise the needs of those who voted for them.

According to the legislator, the survey demonstrates that Kenyans are increasingly rewarding leaders who deliver tangible results on the ground.

Congratulating fellow Members of Parliament who also performed strongly in the poll, Babu noted that many legislators had recorded respectable approval ratings, describing it as evidence that Parliament was becoming more responsive to the electorate.

“As a statistician, I must say that from the numbers I have seen, Members of Parliament are really working hard. When you look at the rankings beyond the top 100, many are still scoring over 50 per cent. That means if you work hard, you are likely to be re-elected because once you have reached the 50 per cent mark, it means you are already above average,” he observed.

He also encouraged legislators who ranked lower to view the results as constructive feedback rather than criticism, pointing out that several MPs had significantly improved their standings compared to previous surveys.

“I have seen some who were ranked as low as number 216 previously improve to around number 46. That shows there is still a lot of room for improvement. These Members of Parliament are our brothers and sisters, and I believe they understand why they were elected.”

The Embakasi East MP further thanked Infotrak Research and Consulting for conducting what he described as an important accountability exercise, saying independent performance assessments help strengthen democratic leadership by allowing citizens to evaluate those they elect.

Despite celebrating the achievement, Babu maintained that politics and public service must go hand in hand, reaffirming his commitment to the Linda Mwananchi movement while stressing that elected leaders should never neglect service delivery regardless of their political affiliations.

“Of course, I’m a political leader, so I must be a political animal. As I play politics, I must also serve the people. The people elected me to serve them through a political process, so I must engage in politics.”

Asked about the secret behind his performance, the MP pointed to four guiding principles: faith, vision, effective management and accessibility.

“The first secret is God. In everything that you do, put God first. Secondly, it is about vision. Do you have a mission to transform the lives of your constituents? The other secret is management, being organised and remaining accessible to the people.”

The latest Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index is expected to fuel political debate ahead of the next General Election, with performance rankings increasingly becoming a key benchmark used by voters to assess elected leaders and their chances of securing another term in office.
