Confusion as Viral Letter Claims Sifuna, Methu & Gideon Moi Are Set for Cabinet Roles

The National Assembly has dismissed as false a letter circulating online that claims four top politicians have been nominated for cabinet positions in President Ruto’s government.

The viral document claims Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, KANU leader Gideon Moi and Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda were among those nominated and will be vetted by Parliament.

According to the fake letter dated October 30, the vetting process will be done by November 6 to allow for further proceedings under constitutional timelines. The letter even has a fake National Assembly stamp and a forged signature of the Clerk of the Assembly.

The memo went viral on social media on Friday morning and sparked a lot of speculation and debate on a possible cabinet reshuffle.

But the National Assembly has quickly responded and said the document is fake.

“This document is not from the National Assembly or Parliament of Kenya. It is fake. Disregard it,” said the Clerk in a statement.

This comes as President Ruto is said to be planning to make changes to his cabinet to include KANU leaders following Gideon Moi’s recent statement of support for Ruto’s broad-based government.

It also follows Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s recent statement that ODM will continue to engage with Ruto’s government on national issues.

President Ruto has repeatedly said he will build an inclusive government that brings together leaders from all sides of the political divide as Kenya heads to 2027 general elections.
