Former MP Brandishes Gun During Club Confrontation with Wetang’ula’s Aide

A drama unfolded at the Kitale Club in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday night after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s aide, Ben Juma, disrupted a private meeting.

According to eyewitnesses and video footage, Juma stormed into a meeting between former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and Joseph Pepela and accused Pepela of disrespecting Speaker Wetang’ula.

The situation escalated when Juma ordered Pepela to leave the club and face him outside. He claimed Pepela was fond of mentioning the Speaker’s name without showing respect.

“Pepela must respect the party leader. Chris, we respect you, but who is Pepela? We will deal with him accordingly,” Juma is heard saying in the footage.

Wamalwa intervened to save Pepela and in a dramatic move pulled out his firearm and told Juma to leave the premises.

“Please get out, this is a private place. You can’t come here to fight,” the former MP said while brandishing the gun.

Security officers at the club quickly intervened and escorted Juma out before things could get out of hand.

This comes at a time when political temperatures are high. Just days ago, a public fight broke out in Kisii County when Kitutu Chache South MP Antoney Kibagendi clashed with his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Japheth Nyakundi during a funeral.

The two leaders engaged in a heated exchange on the podium after Kibagendi criticized President William Ruto, saying he was misleading the public. The fight soon turned physical and security officers had to intervene as mourners watched in shock.

Both incidents show the growing friction among political friends and foes, raising concerns over the conduct of leaders in public and private spaces.
