Fresh Twist as Kioni Claims Gachagua Secretly Working With Ruto
Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly working with President William Ruto, contrary to the narrative of a bitter fallout between the two leaders.
Speaking on Hot 96 radio on Sunday evening, Kioni said Gachagua recently held a private meeting in Narok County with about 15 people including clergy. The meeting reportedly focused on the DCP’s decision to deny Joshua Ole Kaputa a ticket for the upcoming Narok Town Ward by-election.
According to Kioni, Gachagua told the attendees that he had a “working understanding” with Ruto and that Ole Kaputa would be nominated once “their house was in order.”
“He said William Ruto had sent emissaries to them and they had an arrangement to put their houses in order before meeting for further talks,” Kioni said.
Kioni also alleged that Gachagua outlined a political plan, boasting of having “seven million votes from the Mt Kenya region, one million from Kalonzo Musyoka and 800,000 from Fred Matiang’i” which he thought would give him leverage with the Maasai community.
Asked when the meeting took place, Kioni declined to reveal, saying:
“He said it himself. I will give you the date and hour the minute I leave this place.”
Kioni said the Jubilee Party will only work with coalitions that are genuinely committed to sending Ruto home in 2027 and not those engaging in what he termed “sinister political deals.”
“We want to work with like-minded groups that actually believe in sending William Ruto home not those pushing selfish arrangements like ‘get your people and I get mine,’” he said.
The Secretary General also used the platform to urge young Kenyans to register in large numbers for the voter registration exercise launched by the IEBC on Monday, September 29.
“You must register in large numbers. It makes no sense to criticize the government loudly yet fail to vote it out. If you don’t register you’re indirectly voting them in,” he added.
IEBC aims to register 6.3 million new voters, increasing the number from 22.1 million to 28 million by 2027.
