Gengetone Star Shalkido in ICU Following Thika Road Motorbike Accident
Popular Gengetone artist Shalkido has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being involved in a serious motorbike accident along Thika Road in the early hours of Sunday, October 5.
The news was first shared by media personality Oga Obinna who revealed he was among the last people to see the artist before the tragic incident.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 4 a.m. after Shalkido had performed at an entertainment joint in Thika. Obinna said they had both left the venue around the same time and Shalkido was riding his motorbike to Nairobi. “When we were leaving we lost him at some point. We later met at the Thika road junction. I even fuelled his bike before we continued our journey,” Obinna said.
They rode together until just past Kenyatta University (KU) where Shalkido waved at them as he took an exit. Hours later Obinna received disturbing news that Shalkido had been involved in an accident and was in critical condition.
Reports indicate Shalkido sustained serious head injuries and was bleeding from the ears when he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors later confirmed he had been transferred to the ICU.
Police have towed his motorbike to a nearby station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
This is not the first time Shalkido has been involved in an accident. He resurfaced in the public eye a few months ago sharing details of his financial struggles that had forced him to live in difficult conditions. He had earlier appealed for help online saying he wanted to start a boda boda business to make ends meet.
His plea drew sympathy from many and comedian Eric Omondi through his “Sisi kwa Sisi” initiative mobilized funds and gifted him a new motorbike – the same one he was riding during the accident.
Fans and fellow artists have since taken to social media to send messages of support wishing Shalkido a speedy recovery as he fights for his life in hospital.
