Government Rolls Out Ksh2,700 Monthly Stipends to Over 100,000 Families Households in Arid Counties
The Kenyan government has initiated a significant cash transfer, disbursing Ksh2,700 to each beneficiary under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP). This initiative is aimed at supporting vulnerable communities in arid regions.
The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that a total of Ksh294.4 million has been released to assist 109,072 households across eight counties. The funds are slated to be accessible via bank agents and branches starting Wednesday, September 3.
Mandera County is set to receive the largest portion at Ksh59.6 million, followed by Marsabit (Ksh55 million), Wajir (Ksh51.7 million), and Turkana (Ksh43.5 million).
Garissa, Samburu, Isiolo, and Tana River counties will also receive substantial allocations. The monthly Ksh2,700 stipend is designed to protect these families from the severe impacts of drought and poverty.
The NDMA advised beneficiaries facing any issues to update their details at their nearest bank branch to ensure uninterrupted payments. The HSNP is a key component of the government’s broader Inua Jamii social protection framework.
