The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has begun processing loan applications from first-time applicants, with applications now moving into the verification stage ahead of allocation and disbursement.
Applicants whose applications have reached Stage 2 – Verification have been informed that their details have been received and are undergoing checks by HELB officials.
The verification process is a key step before applicants move to the allocation stage, where successful students will be assigned their respective loan amounts.
HELB has urged applicants to remain patient as the board continues processing applications and preparing to disburse funds.
“Applicants are urged to remain patient as the HELB team continues working to process and disburse the loans as quickly as possible,” the board said.
Students do not need to visit HELB offices to track their applications. They can check their status through the HELB online portal, mobile application or USSD service.
Applicants using the online portal can log into their accounts, access the dashboard and select “My Loans” to view the latest status of their application.
Students can also dial *642# on their mobile phones and follow the prompts to check their loan application status.
Once verification is completed, successful applications will proceed to the allocation stage. Applicants will then be notified of the amount awarded before the funds move to the disbursement stage.
First-time applicants who have not yet submitted their applications have been encouraged to do so as early as possible to avoid missing available funding opportunities.
Those who have already applied have also been advised to regularly monitor their application status through HELB’s official channels.
For applicants currently at Stage 2, allocation is the next major stage to watch as HELB continues processing applications and prepares to release funds to successful students.
