Huduma Kenya Urges Citizens to Collect Processed IDs, Birth Certificates and Licences

Thousands of government documents waiting for collection at Huduma Centres across the country.

Huduma Kenya has issued a new directive to Kenyans who applied for driving licences, ID cards and birth certificates to collect their processed documents from Huduma Centres.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, the agency announced that 57,444 driving licences, 22,524 birth certificates and 82,506 ID cards are ready for collection.

“Your government documents are ready for collection. Visit any of our 59 Huduma Centres and pick them today,” part of the statement reads.

Processing Timelines and Application Guidelines

Huduma Kenya said it takes two weeks to process an ID or birth certificate and five days for a smart driving licence.

For lost or damaged IDs, applicants are required to apply online through eCitizen portal and pay Ksh1,050. For new or replacement birth certificates, applicants must apply online and submit birth notification and parents’ ID numbers. However, for corrections such as misspelled names or letters on a birth certificate, the process must be done through Civil Registration office.

Government to introduce Digital Notifications

This comes after eCitizen Services Director General, Isaac Ochieng, revealed plans to introduce digital notifications to alert Kenyans when their IDs are ready for collection.

Speaking on Thursday, September 4, during an interview on Radio Generation, Ochieng said they will link IDs to birth records. Under the new system, when a child turns 18, their parents will automatically receive a text message informing them that the ID is ready.

“Where we are now, if you attain the age of 18, we will notify your parents on their phone because we have their details. We will tell them that the national ID for your son or daughter is ready for collection,” Ochieng said.

This will streamline the process, reduce delays and minimize cases of uncollected documents at Huduma Centres.
