ICT CS William Kabogo Faces Online Backlash Over Oversized Outfits Abroad
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has found himself in the spotlight again – not for his policy work but for his wardrobe. Photos of Kabogo in oversized suits during official engagements in New York have gone viral and Kenyans on social media are roasting him.
The former Kiambu governor was photographed alongside Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and the conversation intensified when he posed for pictures with Nigeria’s Minister of ICT, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and Denmark’s Consul General in New York, Helle Meinertz.
In one of the viral images, Kabogo wore a checked blazer over a plain shirt and tie, paired with navy trousers and brown shoes with brightly coloured soles. His Nigerian counterpart, Dr. Tijani, looked sharp in a navy suit, crisp shirt and black shoes.
Social media users were quick to weigh in, with many telling Kabogo to get an image consultant. One user wrote on X: “Mhe Waziri, uko na pesa. Get an image/wardrobe consultant and accept his advice. Unachoma Babah.” Another commented: “What’s up Mhesh with all these oversized coats? You’ve got the money. Get a designer. Stop embarrassing us on a global stage.”
This is not the first time Kabogo’s attire has been a subject of online humour. Earlier this year he was photographed in khaki trousers, tie, colourful striped socks and tan safari boots – an outfit that went viral and turned him into a meme.
As the banter continued, Kenyans didn’t just mock his dress sense; many also poked fun at his ICT portfolio, asking if his style choices reflected a lack of digital “upgrades”.
For Kabogo, whose fashion statements have become as much a talking point as his political career, the New York trip has once again cemented his reputation as one of Kenya’s most talked-about public figures – though perhaps not in the way he intended.
