IShowSpeed Forced to Cut Africa Tour Stream After Hostile Scenes at Algerian Super Cup Final
Globally renowned YouTube streamer IShowSpeed, born Darren Watkins Jr, was forced to abruptly end his Africa tour livestream after experiencing a hostile reception at a football stadium in Algeria.
The American content creator, who boasts more than 30 million subscribers on YouTube, attended the Algerian Super Cup final between USM Alger and MC Alger when the incident unfolded.
Footage circulating online shows the 19-year-old dodging objects thrown from the stands, including water bottles, as tensions escalated inside the stadium. Visibly shaken, Speed was heard saying he was “not welcome” before leaving the venue and cutting his livestream shortly afterwards without offering an explanation.
The incident reportedly took place at the Ultras Algerie FC stadium, where fans could be seen hurling projectiles in his direction as the match continued.
Fans react as footage spreads online
Clips of the incident quickly went viral, sparking intense debate across social media platforms. While some condemned the actions of those involved, others questioned why the atmosphere turned hostile compared to other countries Speed visited during his tour.
One user, @sauravv123, wrote:
“Algeria! You were doing so well. What happened here was absolutely uncalled for. Remember, one mistake can make you the most loved or hated country in the world.”
Another viewer, @Scree_Nice80, questioned the sudden shift in behaviour, saying:
“Why did they do that?? That’s very bad. Someone they were showing love to on the street, they’re now throwing water at him.”
Others expressed disappointment over how the incident overshadowed his visit.
@raimableee commented:
“Worst in all his tour… Keep yourself up straight, Speed.”
Meanwhile, some reactions were more critical, with @KVyrukas asking:
“I wonder what the difference is between them and other African countries he visited?”
Despite the backlash, Speed has not released an official statement, leaving fans speculating about what triggered the incident. The episode has highlighted the unpredictable nature of livestreaming, particularly in high-energy sporting environments and unfamiliar cultural settings.
Contrast with warm reception in Ethiopia
The scenes in Algeria stood in sharp contrast to Speed’s earlier visit to Ethiopia, where he was greeted by thousands of enthusiastic fans.
During one of his most-watched streams of the tour, the YouTuber met two look-alikes, with the group’s high-energy antics delighting viewers online.
However, the overwhelming crowd later caused concern. One of his bodyguards, Big Henry, repeatedly urged Speed to leave the congested area, but the streamer insisted on continuing.
Moments later, Speed was seen collapsing, prompting his other bodyguard, Rudiger, to quickly step in and prevent him from falling. Henry was filmed supporting Speed’s head while Rudiger shielded him from the crowd.
As they escorted him away, Speed could be heard shouting “Stop”, while his team pleaded with fans to give him space. After crouching to regain his breath, the streamer eventually stood up and walked away as security formed a protective perimeter around him.
The incident raised concerns among fans about the physical toll of intense public appearances, particularly during large-scale international tours.
