Johanna Ng’eno Chopper Crash: Survivor Recounts Lawmaker’s Final Moments Before Tragedy
The tragic Johanna Ng’eno chopper crash has taken a deeply emotional turn after a close friend of the late MP opened up about the lawmaker’s final moments alive. A young engineer who spent the day with Ng’eno — and even boarded the ill-fated helicopter earlier — has now shared a heartbreaking account of what transpired before the fatal accident.
Tragic Helicopter Crash in Mosop, Nandi County
Ng’eno was among six people who perished on Saturday, February 28, after a helicopter crashed in a forested area in Mosop, Nandi County. The accident sent shockwaves across the country, with leaders and residents mourning the loss of a vocal and influential legislator.
The ill-fated flight had earlier made stops in Eldoret and Endebess before disaster struck.
Close Friend Speaks Out About Final Hours
In a video shared on Facebook, Engineer Kipchirchir Mosonik revealed that he had accompanied the MP throughout the day and had even boarded the helicopter earlier that morning.
Mosonik said the chopper picked him up in Eldoret as he joined Ng’eno on a trip to Endebess.
“We were heading to Endebess in Mt Elgon to attend a musician’s event. The MP asked me to accompany him, and I was picked up at an airstrip in Eldoret,” he said.
According to Mosonik, everything appeared normal during the flight to Endebess. He did not observe any mechanical concerns or warning signs.
“The Captain Was in a Hurry”
After the event in Endebess, Mosonik noticed something unusual about the pilot’s demeanor.
He said the pilot appeared to be in a rush as preparations were made for departure. The MP, his personal assistant, and others — including his photographer Nick — boarded the helicopter.
Mosonik, however, chose not to reboard, as he was heading back to Eldoret by road.
“Together with his PA, we took a vehicle to Kitale, so that we could get a vehicle to Eldoret. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived in Kitale, we got information about the chopper accident,” he recounted.
The news devastated him.
Reflecting on the earlier flight, Mosonik admitted he was not knowledgeable about aviation matters but remembered one detail clearly.
“But I would not know since I do not know much about helicopters. All I remember was that the captain was in a hurry; I think he wanted to go back to Nairobi,” he revealed.
MP Ng’eno’s Final Goodbye
What remains etched in Mosonik’s memory is his final interaction with the lawmaker.
He described Ng’eno as cheerful and in high spirits. There were no signs of distress, no indication that tragedy was moments away.
“I bid him the last goodbye as he boarded the chopper. He was at his happiest. He was so happy to see me in the morning when I joined him. My heart is so heavy. I say rest in peace,” he said.
Those words have since resonated deeply with Kenyans mourning the MP’s untimely death.
Nation Awaits Official Findings
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the helicopter crash in Mosop. Aviation experts will likely examine flight records, weather conditions, and technical factors to determine what led to the fatal incident.
For now, friends, family, and constituents continue to grapple with the painful loss of a leader remembered as energetic and dedicated to his people.
The Johanna Ng’eno chopper crash has left many asking difficult questions — and waiting for answers.
