Juja MP George Koimburi Speaks for the First Time on Reported Disappearance
Juja MP George Koimburi has finally spoken out on the May 25, 2025 incident where he was allegedly abducted, drugged and found abandoned in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County. This is his first public statement since the incident which attracted attention from political stakeholders and law enforcement agencies.
He delivered the statement on Saturday, June 7, 2025 during a public appearance after he was discharged from The Karen Hospital, Nairobi where he was admitted after the alleged incident. According to the MP, the abduction happened shortly after he attended a church service at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya.
“It has been two weeks of hell, I won’t forget. May 25, 2025, Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, I was coming from there when the goons ambushed me and blindfolded me. They drugged me and the following day I was dumped on a coffee farm. It was a boda boda rider who informed my family who rescued me and brought me to the hospital,” Koimburi said.
Koimburi described the abductors as “goons” and said they made him inhale harmful substances and he couldn’t speak when he was found. He was taken to The Karen Hospital where he received treatment. He didn’t disclose the duration of his stay or the type of treatment he received.
The MP condemned abductions which he said are ongoing in the country. Without directly pointing to state agencies, Koimburi asked the Government of Kenya to investigate and flush out criminal elements in civilian population.
“I curse this act that was done to me. I want to ask Kenyans to continue praying for our country and our government. I also wish to plead with the government to look into these abductions because goons have infiltrated our circles and are disappearing people, I have seen it myself. I pray the government brings peace to the republic,” he said.
Koimburi’s statement was tame compared to those of his political colleagues who had earlier attributed the disappearance to state security agents. But senior officials in the security docket, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin have dismissed the claims as baseless. In a statement earlier in the week, Inspector General Kanja said preliminary investigations found no evidence of coercion or forced disappearance.

According to the police, the MP was taken to The Karen Hospital in his own vehicle and no signs of physical harm or abduction were seen. Inspector General Kanja also said police detectives were denied access to the MP during his stay in hospital, further casting doubt on the claims.
“Detectives were denied access to the MP. He will be questioned when opportunity arises,” Inspector General Kanja said.
DCI reiterates no credible leads on alleged abduction. Attempts to get evidence from The Karen Hospital where Koimburi got treated yielded no results. Hospital administration has not issued any statement to confirm or deny the condition of the MP upon arrival.
Police said forensic analysis of the scene and available CCTV footage showed no abnormal activity to match the timeline given by the MP. No suspects have been arrested or identified in connection to the case.
Koimburi did not address the claims by the police. He did not engage with the allegations that the alleged abduction was staged to get public sympathy or leverage in the current political discourse.
The incident has sparked public commentary and political speculation. Several MPs allied to Koimburi had earlier accused elements within the national security docket of orchestrating enforced disappearances particularly targeting politically active individuals. These allegations are unsubstantiated and no formal complaints have been filed with oversight bodies like IPOA or KNCHR.
Kenya Police Service and DCI have not confirmed if a file has been opened on Koimburi’s allegations. No medical report has been released to confirm the nature of injuries or exposure to chemicals as claimed.
As of June 7, 2025, the matter is still pending with no agreement between the account given by George Koimburi and the police position. No motion has been tabled in parliament on the matter. National Assembly has not issued a statement on the matter.
Further updates will depend on the outcome of investigations or future statements by the OIG, DCI or the MP himself.
