Kang’ata Confirms Ol Kalou Tour Cancelled Following Gachagua’s Intervention

Linda Mwananchi Cancels Ol Kalou Tour After Gachagua’s Remarks, Kang’ata Confirms New Itinerary

The Linda Mwananchi movement has cancelled its planned visit to Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County, just days after former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua publicly urged national political leaders to stay away from the ongoing Ol Kalou by-election campaigns.

The movement will now only hold its final stop in Nyahururu Town on Sunday, July 12, marking a significant change to an itinerary that had initially included Ol Kalou as one of its key campaign destinations.

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata confirmed the revised programme in a brief statement shared on his X account on Friday, July 10.

“Linda will only go to Nyahururu Town,” Kang’ata posted, confirming that the Ol Kalou stop had been dropped from the schedule.

The announcement came shortly after Gachagua argued that the Ol Kalou by-election campaign should be left to local political leaders, saying the contest should not be turned into a national political battleground.

His remarks sparked speculation over whether the opposition movement would proceed with its planned rally in the constituency or adjust its programme to avoid escalating political tensions during the campaign period.

Revised Tour Programme

Under the revised Nyandarua/Laikipia Linda Mwananchi Tour itinerary, the movement is expected to make the following stops on Sunday:

  • 10:00 a.m. – Ngorika AIPCA
  • 1:00 p.m. – Tumaini Shopping Centre
  • 5:00 p.m. – Nyahururu Town

The previously scheduled 2:00 p.m. stop in Ol Kalou has been removed.

The decision represents a notable shift in the movement’s plans as political activity intensifies ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election. While Kang’ata did not explicitly state the reason behind the cancellation, the timing has drawn attention after Gachagua’s public appeal for outside political figures to keep away from the constituency during the campaign.

The Linda Mwananchi movement has been conducting political tours across several counties in recent weeks as opposition leaders continue to mobilise support and engage residents on governance, economic and constitutional issues ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Whether the cancellation was prompted directly by Gachagua’s remarks or formed part of a broader strategic review has not been officially clarified.
