Kenya Railways Announces Massive Job Hirings Following SGR Expansion
Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has opened the doors to numerous employment opportunities, signalling a major push to strengthen rail transport services across the country following the recent Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension launch.
On Tuesday, April 7, KRC officially invited applications from qualified Kenyans to fill multiple senior-level roles across its operations. The announcement comes amid the government’s broader efforts to modernise the railway network and improve efficiency in passenger and freight transport.
“The expansion of our rail network is a critical milestone for Kenya’s transport infrastructure. We are now seeking skilled professionals to ensure that these services are managed with the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service,” said a spokesperson for Kenya Railways.
Positions Available
The current openings include managerial roles in rail safety, passenger services, sales and marketing, quality management systems, and risk coordination. Other vacancies cover signalling, electrical and communication management, technical audit, stores and inventory management, train operations, and accounts management.
Each position has one vacancy, with some roles newly introduced while others are being re-advertised to attract a wider pool of candidates.
Application Requirements
Applicants are required to submit a signed application letter, a comprehensive curriculum vitae, and copies of academic and professional certificates, alongside a valid national identification document. The corporation also requires information on previous work experience, referees, and salary expectations.
Successful candidates must provide clearance certificates from key government bodies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
Kenya Railways has emphasised its commitment to equal opportunity employment, specifically encouraging applications from women, persons with disabilities, minorities, and marginalised groups.
Application Deadline
All applications must be submitted online via the Kenya Railways website (krc.co.ke), as hard copy submissions will not be accepted. The deadline for submissions is April 28, 2026, at 5 pm. Applicants are reminded to clearly indicate the position applied for and the vacancy reference number in the subject heading.
“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, so we encourage qualified professionals to submit their applications early,” the corporation added.
The openings are expected to attract significant interest as Kenya Railways positions itself to capitalise on the recently extended SGR route, which aims to improve connectivity between major urban centres and reduce the cost and time of transporting goods and passengers.
