Kenyan Man Cycles to Police Station With Giant Python After Dog Is Killed

A Kenyan man has stunned both local residents and social media users after cycling to a police station with a massive python strapped to his bicycle, demanding action after the snake allegedly crushed and killed his dog.

The unusual incident occurred in Sigomere, Ugunja sub-county, Siaya County, where the visibly distressed man captured the large reptile and transported it himself to authorities. According to the man, the python had been terrorising his homestead for days and had not only killed his dog but was also destroying his food supply.

In a video that has since gone viral, the man is seen riding through the village with the snake hanging from the rear carrier of his bicycle, drawing shock and disbelief from onlookers. Speaking angrily in the clip, he explained his decision to take the matter directly to the police.

“I am going to report to the police. This dog had been taking care of my things, but this python killed it,” he said.
“It has been eating my potatoes — now where will I eat?”

The python, believed to be an African rock python, appeared unusually large and well-fed, with many viewers noting its thick body and glossy skin. Its sheer size fuelled online debate, with some questioning how the man managed to overpower and transport such a powerful animal on a bicycle.

The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, where reactions ranged from sympathy and concern to disbelief and humour. While some praised the man for standing up for his loss, others described the scene as “unreal” and “straight out of a movie.”

Wildlife experts note that African rock pythons, which are common in parts of western Kenya, are known to prey on small to medium-sized animals, including dogs, goats and poultry. In rural areas bordering bushes and wetlands, encounters between humans and large reptiles are not uncommon, especially during dry seasons when animals venture closer to homes in search of food.

Despite being non-venomous, pythons kill by constriction and are capable of overpowering animals much larger than themselves. Authorities have repeatedly warned residents against confronting wild animals directly, urging them instead to contact wildlife officers.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear what action police or wildlife officials took after the man delivered the snake to the station. However, the incident has reignited calls for better wildlife response systems in rural communities where human-animal conflict continues to rise.

For now, the dramatic image of a grieving villager cycling with a giant python in tow has become one of the most talked-about viral moments in Kenya this week.
