KUCCPS Opens 36 KMTC Courses for KCSE C and D Students as January Deadline Set
Barely a week after opening its application portal, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has unveiled 36 certificate and diploma courses available at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), targeting students who attained C and D grades in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, KUCCPS confirmed that the opportunities are open to Form Four leavers who achieved minimum grades of C (plain), D+ (plus) and D (plain), depending on the programme and subject combination.
The announcement comes as thousands of candidates seek placement in medical and health-related courses, with KMTC remaining one of the country’s most sought-after institutions due to its nationwide reach and strong employment prospects in the healthcare sector.
According to KUCCPS, the 36 programmes span both certificate and diploma levels, offering a wide range of options for students interested in clinical, community health, and technical medical careers.
At certificate level, the listed courses include Community Health Assistant, Health Insurance Management, Health Records and Information Technology, Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing, Medical Emergency Technician, Medical Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine, and Public Health.
For diploma applicants, KUCCPS highlighted programmes such as Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Community Health, Community Oral Health, Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Technology, Health Counselling, Health Insurance Management, Health Promotion, and Health Records and Information Technology.
Additional diploma courses include Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing and Midwifery, Mental Health and Psychiatry, Medical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Social Work, Mortuary Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Occupational Therapy.
Minimum Subject Requirements
KUCCPS clarified that minimum entry requirements vary by programme, with some courses requiring a mean grade of C (plain), while others accept D+ (plus) or D (plain) based on subject performance.
However, the placement service noted that all courses—except Mortuary Science—require a minimum grade of C- (minus) in English or Kiswahili and Mathematics, underscoring the importance of basic language and numeracy skills in medical training.
Campuses Nationwide
The programmes will be offered across multiple KMTC campuses countrywide, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Embu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Machakos, Meru, Bungoma, Garissa, Kitui, and Homa Bay, among others.
KUCCPS advised that all applications must be submitted online through the student portal at students.kuccps.ac.ke, warning applicants to verify their details carefully before submission.
Candidates interested in the medical courses have been urged to apply within the next few days, with the application window set to close on January 27, 2026.
