Thousands of students across Kenya can now begin preparing for higher education after the government officially released the long-awaited 2025 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement results, confirming admissions to universities, technical institutions and colleges for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that 293,869 students had successfully secured placements in various institutions, describing the exercise as one of the largest in Kenya’s history.

The latest figures represent a significant jump from previous years, when annual placements averaged approximately 70,000 students, highlighting the government’s continued efforts to expand access to higher education and technical training.
Of the successful applicants, 202,133 students were placed in degree programmes at public and private universities across the country.
Meanwhile, 28,246 students secured admission to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), while 500 candidates were placed in Diploma in Law (Paralegal) programmes.
The placement exercise also saw 765 students admitted to the Kenya Utalii College, with another 875 students joining Secondary Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
Government Extends Transfer Window
In a move expected to benefit thousands of learners seeking alternative institutions or courses, CS Ogamba announced that the inter-institution transfer period has been extended from two weeks to one month.
The extension will allow students additional time to apply for transfers should they wish to change their institution or programme after reviewing their placement results.
“The inter-institution transfer window has been extended to one month to allow students ample time to request changes where necessary,” the Education CS said.
The announcement is expected to provide relief to candidates who may wish to pursue different courses, relocate closer to home or take up opportunities in institutions better suited to their academic goals.
The release of the placement results marks a major milestone in Kenya’s education calendar and clears the way for universities, TVET institutions and colleges to begin preparations for admitting the new cohort of students ahead of the 2025/2026 academic year.
