Caleb Amisi Accuses Natembeya of ‘Hijacking’ Linda Mwananchi as Opposition Rift Deepens
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has accused Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya of disrupting Linda Mwananchi, claiming the governor joined the opposition movement after its formation and is now seeking to influence its political direction.
Amisi, leader of the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM), made the accusations during a local media interview aired on Tuesday, September 15, as disagreements over Linda Mwananchi’s political future continue to emerge ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The outspoken MP claimed that politicians who joined the movement after its initial formation did not fully understand its original purpose and were now attempting to redirect it to serve their own political interests.
Amisi specifically targeted Natembeya, alleging that the governor turned to Linda Mwananchi after his own TAWE movement failed to gain political traction.
According to Amisi, Natembeya had been invited to an early meeting but declined to attend, only joining the movement after it had gained momentum.
“He has waited until Linda Mwananchi has taken part, and TAWE movement has died for him to join Linda Mwananchi and hijack it. Those are the people spoiling this movement,” Amisi claimed.
Amisi recounts Linda Mwananchi origins
Amisi also sought to assert his role in the early formation of the movement, saying the initial discussions took place at his home in Lukhome, Trans Nzoia.
He claimed the Kenya Moja Movement, which he was involved in forming, later became a precursor to Linda Mwananchi.
Amisi said he had attempted to bring Natembeya into the early discussions but that the governor declined the invitation.
He also criticised Siaya Governor James Orengo, whom he accused of contributing to disagreements within the Edwin Sifuna-led formation.
The claims come as Linda Mwananchi grapples with disagreements over the political party or vehicle it should use to contest the 2027 elections.
Battle over political vehicle
The dispute has become particularly visible following disagreements involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Amisi.
Babu has said he already had a political party before Linda Mwananchi was formed and that discussions had initially considered using his party as the movement’s electoral vehicle. He has since expressed frustration over the emergence of alternative proposals, including the Ukombozi Peoples Party.
Babu recently announced that although he would continue supporting Sifuna’s presidential bid, he would not attend every Linda Mwananchi rally because he intends to concentrate more heavily on his Nairobi gubernatorial campaign.
Amisi has separately claimed that he was removed from Linda Mwananchi WhatsApp groups following disagreements over the political party that should take the movement into the 2027 elections.
He has said the dispute vindicated his position that his Political Movement party had initially been considered for the movement.
Wamboka hits back
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has meanwhile defended Natembeya and criticised Amisi’s account of events.
Wamboka has accused Amisi of acting against Linda Mwananchi’s interests and questioned why Amisi’s own political party had apparently faced fewer obstacles in its registration while Linda Mwananchi was struggling to establish a political vehicle.
Wamboka further alleged that Amisi could be working with the government to frustrate the opposition movement. Those are allegations by Wamboka and have not been established as fact.
Amisi’s latest accusations add another layer to the increasingly public disagreements surrounding Linda Mwananchi, which is seeking to consolidate an opposition platform ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement’s leaders now face the challenge of resolving the dispute over its political vehicle while also managing competing political ambitions among its principals.
