Amisi Claims Ruto Sent ‘Old Politicians’ to Hijack Linda Mwananchi
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has accused President William Ruto of sending veteran politicians into the Linda Mwananchi movement in an alleged attempt to hijack its agenda and steer the opposition formation towards the government.
Amisi, the leader of the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM), made the allegation during a local media interview aired on Tuesday, September 15, as disagreements within Linda Mwananchi continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The claim is an allegation by Amisi and has not been independently established.
The Saboti MP said Linda Mwananchi was originally conceived as a platform for a new generation of leaders and argued that some politicians who joined later had sought to change the movement’s original direction.
Amisi said he was particularly concerned because, according to his claim, some of the veteran politicians had previously worked with Ruto.
“What makes you think that they have not come to grab this idea and go and sell it to William Ruto?” Amisi asked.
He further alleged that the politicians had been sent to take control of the movement and eventually redirect it towards the President.
‘It was about a new generation’
Amisi said the original objective was not necessarily to make Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna the presidential candidate, but to create a platform capable of elevating a younger generation of political leaders.
“The original idea of Linda Mwananchi was to propel a young leader to presidency even if it was not Sifuna. Somebody else could have taken over,” he said.
He argued that veteran politicians who joined later should instead have played an advisory role.
Amisi specifically mentioned Siaya Governor James Orengo, questioning his involvement in the movement because of his age and claiming that he was not part of the group’s early discussions.
The MP has previously said the movement was rooted in the Kenya Moja initiative, which he claims was formed before Linda Mwananchi gained national prominence. Earlier reports also show that Amisi has repeatedly argued that the movement has deviated from its original emphasis on generational political change.
Amisi turns focus on Natembeya and Orengo
In a separate interview, Amisi accused Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Orengo of contributing to the problems facing Linda Mwananchi.
He claimed the two leaders were not involved when the movement was initially being formed but joined after it had gained momentum.
Amisi singled out Natembeya, alleging that the governor turned to Linda Mwananchi after his own TAWE political project failed to gain sufficient traction.
He has separately accused Natembeya of attempting to take control of the movement, while also criticising Orengo’s role in its leadership. Those claims have been reported as Amisi’s allegations, rather than established facts.
Party dispute exposes deeper divisions
The latest accusations come amid an increasingly public disagreement over the political vehicle Linda Mwananchi should use to contest the 2027 elections.
Amisi has claimed that he was removed from WhatsApp groups associated with the movement following disagreements over the party that should carry its candidates into the election.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has also spoken publicly about the discussions, saying several leaders had political parties that were considered as possible vehicles for the movement.
According to Babu’s account, a committee had been established to examine the available options before disagreements emerged over which party should ultimately be used.
The dispute has since spilled into a broader argument over who should control Linda Mwananchi’s political direction and whether the movement has remained faithful to its original objectives.
Wamboka hits back
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has defended Natembeya and rejected Amisi’s account.
Wamboka has instead accused Amisi of being a mole within Linda Mwananchi, claiming this was why he was removed from the movement’s internal groups.
He has also questioned why Amisi’s own party appeared to encounter fewer obstacles during registration while Linda Mwananchi has faced difficulties establishing itself as a fully fledged political vehicle.
Wamboka’s claims against Amisi are also allegations and have not been independently established.
The increasingly public exchange highlights the political tensions developing inside Linda Mwananchi as its leaders attempt to settle questions surrounding its leadership, electoral vehicle and presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
