President William Ruto is set to travel to the United States later this week to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the government has confirmed.
The announcement was made on Thursday, September 17, by Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’Oei during a media briefing.
Sing’Oei said the President had agreed to attend the high-level UN gathering and would depart Nairobi later this week.
“I am pleased to announce that the President has agreed to attend the UNGA, and therefore we are here to inform you that the President will be departing the capital later this week,” Sing’Oei said.
Ruto’s planned visit will take him to New York, where world leaders are expected to gather for the annual UN General Assembly.
The UNGA provides a platform for heads of state and government to address the international community on global issues and engage in bilateral and multilateral meetings on matters of mutual interest.
The President’s attendance comes as Kenya continues to pursue its diplomatic and multilateral agenda on the international stage.
Further details on Ruto’s programme, including his address to the General Assembly and scheduled bilateral engagements, are expected to be announced by the government ahead of his departure.
