Malala Declares Gachagua’s Return from US Tour ‘A Public Holiday ’ as Political Storm Brews
DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala has said the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be a public holiday.
Gachagua is expected to land in the country on Thursday, August 21, 2025 after cutting short his official visit to the United States.
During his US tour, the ex-Second in Command had met with Kenyan communities in major cities including Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City and Baltimore. His initial itinerary was for two months but political developments back home have forced an early return.
Trip Cut Short for Political Reasons
On Thursday, August 14, 2025 Gachagua posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account announcing the change of plans. He apologised to organisers and Kenyans in the diaspora who had been waiting to meet him.
“I had a very successful and fulfilling visit to the United States of America with serious engagements with Kenyans in the Diaspora. I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party,” he wrote.
Gachagua explained his decision was due to preparations for by-elections in various parts of the country under the DCP banner.
“In preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country,” he said without giving further details.
Apologies and Promises
Gachagua told Kenyans abroad he will resume his tour early next year.
“I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organisers and Kenyans whom I was to meet; the same has been rescheduled for early next year,” he noted.
Before he left he said he would take a short rest and post his updated travel itinerary. He also thanked Kenyans in the US for the warm reception.
“I thank the Kenyans in the States for the love, warmth and hospitality they accorded to us,” he wrote.
He also thanked DCP officials for coordinating the diaspora engagements.
“I salute the organisers and officials of the DCP chapters for superb planning, organisation and meticulous coordination. You are simply the best. God Bless you all, and God Bless Kenya,” he concluded.
