Media personality Nick Odhiambo has revealed that he was involved in a road accident after choosing to drive while exhausted, an experience he has described as a harsh reminder of the dangers posed by fatigue behind the wheel.

Odhiambo shared the incident with his followers on social media on Thursday, January 1, 2025, admitting that the crash occurred after he made the decision to drive despite being extremely tired. While he did not disclose the exact location or circumstances surrounding the accident, his remarks suggested that the incident happened suddenly after what had otherwise been a normal day.

“Everything was going really well until I decided to drive while exhausted… seems like I might have to get another car soon. Goodbye my cute A5,” Odhiambo wrote, referring to his Audi A5, which sustained significant damage in the crash.

Although he did not provide details on whether anyone else was involved or injured, Odhiambo’s message appeared to reassure fans that he had survived the incident. The media personality also struck a reflective and emotional tone, particularly when addressing his children, acknowledging the seriousness of his decision and promising to do better in future.

“To my kids… I won’t let you down again,” he added.

Odhiambo’s remarks sparked widespread reactions online, with many followers expressing relief that he was safe while urging motorists to take fatigue seriously as a major cause of road accidents. Driving while tired has long been identified by road safety experts as a significant risk, often compared to driving under the influence due to its impact on reaction time, judgment and concentration.

The incident comes amid renewed concern over road safety following a fatal crash reported last month at Mua Bridge near Kyumbi Market along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in Machakos County. On Sunday, November 23, 2025, three people — two men and a woman — lost their lives in a collision involving a matatu and a lorry.

Confirming the incident, Athi River East Sub-County Police Commander Anderson Mbae said the deceased included a 32-year-old female passenger, the matatu driver and a 51-year-old male passenger. According to police, the accident was caused by an unregistered HOWO lorry travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi, which veered into the wrong lane and blocked oncoming traffic.

“David Muli, 54, the driver of the PSV matatu under KAM SACCO, is among those who died on the spot,” Mbae said.

Seventeen passengers were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Referral Hospital with various injuries after the matatu reportedly overturned and landed on its right side near the driver’s seat. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Machakos Level 5 Referral Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations, while the damaged vehicles were towed to Kyumbi Police Station for inspection.

Machakos County Health CECM Justus Kasivu later said the hospital had received a total of 37 patients with both serious and minor injuries following the crash.

“All patients are currently being attended to in the Casualty and Radiology departments, and the response is progressing smoothly,” Kasivu said.

Together, the incidents have reignited public debate on road safety, with authorities and motorists alike being urged to prioritise rest, caution and responsible driving to prevent avoidable tragedies on Kenyan roads.
