Millie Odhiambo Warns ODM Over Sifuna Fallout

Millie Odhiambo Warns ODM: ‘We’ve Created a Hero Out of Sifuna’ Amid Rising Party Tensions

NAIROBI, Kenya — Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has issued a stark warning to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), cautioning that mishandling internal disputes risks elevating dissenting voices into powerful political figures.

Speaking on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the outspoken legislator said the party’s approach to internal wrangles—particularly involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna—may have inadvertently boosted his national profile rather than weakening it.

“I want to say here, without fear, that I had warned even against us chasing Sifuna from the party,” Odhiambo said, in remarks likely to intensify debate within ODM ranks.

She suggested that efforts to sideline Sifuna may have backfired, transforming him into a more influential and sympathetic political figure.

“And the reason is because I knew, by the nature of his politics, he was bound at some point to leave,” she added, hinting at longstanding ideological and strategic differences within the party.

Odhiambo emphasised that political parties must tread carefully when handling dissent, warning that aggressive tactics can reshape public perception in favour of those targeted.

Her comments come at a time of heightened tensions within ODM, where internal disagreements have increasingly played out in public, raising concerns about party unity ahead of future political contests.

Analysts say such disputes, if not managed carefully, can fracture party cohesion while simultaneously amplifying the visibility of perceived “outsiders” or reformist voices.

Odhiambo’s remarks underscore a broader political reality: that in Kenya’s evolving political landscape, internal party conflicts can quickly spill into the national arena—often with unintended consequences.
