Ministry of Education Issues Nationwide Circular on Management of Term Two Co-Curricular Activities

The Ministry of Education has issued a circular to all education officers across the country on the management of school sports and co-curricular activities during Term Two.

The circular was written by Nelson Sifuna, Head of the Directorate of Field Coordination and Co-Curricular Activities (DFC & CCA) at the Ministry of Education and was addressed to all Regional Directors of Education and copied to County and Sub-county Directors of Education.

“As we start Term Two, remember to stick to the resolutions and guidelines we agreed upon during our recent conference on management of co-curricular and related educational activities at all levels,” Sifuna said.

One of the key points of the circular is the regulation of student travel for official activities. The Ministry of Education has directed that all transportation of learners must be between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

According to the circular, all transportation of students must be between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The circular states that no exceptions will be granted and any breach of this will be a violation of Ministry policy.

To ensure safety and accountability during co-curricular engagements, the Ministry has directed that only registered teachers are allowed to accompany learners.

According to the circular, only registered teachers are allowed to accompany, conduct, train and manage students during official activities. “Unregistered individuals must not be involved in any way.”

Further, the guidelines require gender-sensitive accompaniment protocols. The Ministry has directed that schools must ensure teacher supervision aligned to the gender of learners.

“At least one male teacher must accompany male learners and at least one female teacher must accompany female learners at all times,” the circular added.
