Ministry of Education Releases Grade 10 Placements for 2025 KJSEA Candidates
The Ministry of Education has officially released Grade 10 placement results for candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), marking a major milestone in the transition of learners under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry confirmed that parents and guardians can now check the senior secondary schools their children have been placed in through an SMS service or the official placement portal. To access the results via SMS, parents are required to send the learner’s KNEC assessment number to 22263, while online verification can be done through placements.education.go.ke.
Learners who have been successfully placed will be required to report to their respective senior secondary schools by Monday, January 12, 2026, as preparations for the next phase of their education begin.
Explaining the placement process, the Ministry said it was fully automated and designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and equity across the country. The system took into account several factors, including learners’ school choices, performance in the KJSEA examination, psychometric test results, equity considerations, and available school capacity.
“The placement was conducted through a fully automated system that carefully considered learners’ choices, academic performance, psychometric profiling, equity parameters, and the capacity of schools,” the Ministry stated. “Top-performing learners in each STEM, social sciences, and arts track were given priority placement in boarding schools of their choice.”
The Grade 10 placements follow the release of the 2025 KJSEA results, which were announced on Thursday, December 11. The examinations were conducted between October 27 and November 3 and were aimed at assessing the readiness of the pioneer cohort transitioning from junior secondary to senior secondary under the CBE framework.
According to official figures from the Ministry, a total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA examination. Of these, 578,630 were male, while 551,829 were female, highlighting near gender parity among candidates nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has also outlined a clear procedure for parents and learners seeking to change their allocated schools. Earlier this month, officials confirmed that school changes will only be allowed through a formal request submitted to the Ministry.
Parents wishing to initiate a replacement request must do so through the heads of junior secondary schools at least two weeks before the Grade 10 reporting date. However, the Ministry noted that senior secondary schools must first declare available vacancies through their respective County Directors of Education before any transfers can be considered.
“The replacement process shall be conducted only once and, upon completion, shall be irreversible,” the Ministry cautioned.
Once a replacement request is approved, the Ministry will issue joining instructions to learners exclusively through its online system. Schools have been explicitly warned against issuing printed joining letters in replacement cases.
“At no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases,” the Ministry emphasised.
The Ministry further urged education officers at all levels to work together to ensure a smooth and transparent transition for learners entering senior secondary schools.
“The officers involved are required to cooperate and ensure a fair and credible selection and placement process for a smooth transition of students from junior school to senior school,” the statement concluded.
