MP Millie Odhiambo Raises Alarm Over Trend of Young Men Sending Explicit Content to Older Women

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has voiced concern over what she describes as a “worrying and increasingly common trend” of young men sending explicit images and videos to older women in an attempt to seek attention or affection.

Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV, the outspoken legislator revealed that she regularly receives inappropriate content on her WhatsApp from young male admirers—some of whom, she noted, are young enough to be her grandchildren.

Odhiambo said the behaviour reflects a broader societal lapse in discipline and moral decency.
“There is a need to restore respect,” she said. “Some of these young men send me inappropriate videos and photos on WhatsApp, claiming they want to impress me. Many of them are of an age where they could be my grandsons. I don’t know whether it is the effect of substances or whether we have failed as parents to teach our children self-control.”

The MP urged young people to conduct themselves with dignity both online and offline, adding that personal boundaries and respect for elders were being eroded at an alarming rate.

Odhiambo also shared a recent campaign experience to illustrate the age gap between herself and some of the young people who reach out to her. While on the campaign trail, she said she adjusted her usual dance routines after realising how young one of her fellow politicians was.

“Recently, while campaigning, I’m used to making energetic dances on political podiums,” she explained. “But when I saw Boyd Were, a 27-year-old ODM candidate, stepping forward, I had to hold back because I see him as a son. He is a young man, and there must be respect.”

She concluded by urging young people to exercise restraint and uphold moral values, particularly when engaging on digital platforms.
“Let us be respectful,” she appealed. “I urge our young men and women to be upright. And if you feel the need to engage in private matters, do so in private—not by sending unsolicited content to others.”
