MP Mohamed Ali Makes Special Appeal to Cyrus Jirongo’s Family Ahead of Autopsy

Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohamed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has made a special appeal to the family of the late politician Cyrus Jirongo, urging them to have their own pathologist present during the postmortem examination.

In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Ali warned the family to ensure independent oversight, citing concerns over the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death.

“To the family of the late Cyrus Jirongo, please make sure you have your own pathologist in that room tomorrow. The story doesn’t add up. I interviewed him once, and Jirongo had, over time, expressed fears for his safety,” Ali wrote.

Alongside the post, Ali shared an undated video clip of Jirongo speaking on a local television station, in which the former Lugari MP discussed assassinations and personal safety fears. The footage has resurfaced amid intense public debate following his fatal road accident.

Ali’s appeal has sparked renewed online discussions, with many Kenyans questioning the official account of the crash that claimed Jirongo’s life.

DCI Releases Preliminary Findings

The remarks come hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released preliminary findings on the incident, dismissing claims that the crash scene had been tampered with and confirming that investigations remain ongoing.

According to the DCI, the accident occurred on the night of December 13, 2025, in the Karai area along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway. Investigators established that Jirongo’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a public service bus operated by Climax Company Ltd at approximately 2:19 am.

The bus driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was earlier released on cash bail and is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been re-summoned and is expected to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22, 2025.

CCTV footage recovered from a nearby petrol station reportedly captured Jirongo driving into the station moments before rejoining the highway, where the collision occurred seconds later. Investigators have secured key exhibits and recorded statements from witnesses, including petrol station staff.

Postmortem Scheduled Amid Public Scrutiny

An autopsy on Jirongo’s body is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The former Cabinet minister and two-time Lugari MP, who died aged 80, had been a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, and his death has sparked widespread mourning and scrutiny.

As investigations continue, Ali’s call for independent verification adds a new dimension to the unfolding narrative. Public interest remains high, with many demanding transparency and accountability ahead of the postmortem.
