Mystery Deepens: Gachagua Aide Vanishes, Then Resurfaces Under Police Guard

The alleged abduction of a close aide to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a dramatic turn after the official was traced and presented in court, with fresh claims emerging over the motive behind his arrest.

Stanley Kimure, who serves as Director of Political Affairs in the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), was reportedly found in Kajiado roughly 16 hours after he is said to have been abducted by individuals believed to be police officers.

According to lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, Kimure was allegedly seized near Rironi by men driving a Subaru Forester before later resurfacing under police custody.

“We have traced the freedom fighter to Kajiado. He is being charged before the Kajiado Law Courts,” Njiru said in a statement, confirming that his client had been located.

The advocate further claimed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were behind the operation and had already arraigned Kimure in court.

However, the situation has been complicated by explosive allegations from Njiru, who suggested that the probe into Kimure may be politically motivated.

He claimed investigators were attempting to pressure the DCP official into giving incriminating testimony against Gachagua.

“The DCI wanted him to implicate the freedom fighter General Rigathi, and falsely testify that H.E. Rigathi is in possession of arms, tear gas canisters and drugs,” Njiru alleged.

Authorities have not publicly responded to these claims.

Earlier, Njiru had raised alarm over the alleged abduction, stating that he was with Mark Mwenje at the time of the incident. He said Mwenje attempted to pursue the suspected vehicle—bearing registration number KCV 747T—along Limuru Road, but was unable to catch up with it.

The incident comes at a time when Kenya is witnessing a surge in claims of politically linked abductions, raising concerns among civil society groups and political observers.

At the same time, Amin Mohamed, Director of the DCI, has recently cautioned politicians and members of the media against making what he termed as false abduction claims for political mileage.

Amin pointed to the case involving former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, who was accused of staging his own abduction in connection with the Dari Property dispute.

Tuju was subsequently arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts on charges of filing a false police report and was released on a cash bail of Ksh100,000 pending the hearing of his case.

As investigations into Kimure’s case continue, the incident is likely to further intensify the already charged political climate, with questions emerging over the use of state agencies and the credibility of abduction claims.
