Nairobi Expressway Jobs Open as Moja Expressway Announces Toll Attendant Vacancies
Young professionals and job seekers in Nairobi have a new opportunity after Moja Expressway, the operator of the Nairobi Expressway, announced several job openings for toll attendants.
The company revealed that 10 positions are available, inviting qualified applicants to submit their academic and professional certificates for consideration.
The announcement has sparked interest among Kenyans looking for employment opportunities in infrastructure and transport operations.
Application Process and Deadline
According to the company, interested candidates must submit their applications through its online recruitment portal before Sunday, March 15.
Applicants are required to upload their academic and professional certificates as part of the recruitment process.
“The required skills and experience are a diploma, degree or equivalent. Have basic Information Technology (IT) skills or work experience in a similar capacity,” it stated.
The firm explained that toll attendants play a crucial role in ensuring the expressway runs efficiently.
“At toll plazas, a toll attendant is in charge of collecting tolls from drivers, helping customers, and making sure that traffic moves smoothly. This position needs excellent customer service abilities, precise cash management, and the ability to operate in hectic outdoor settings along the Nairobi Expressway,” it added.
Requirements for Nairobi Expressway Jobs
Aside from the academic qualifications, the company highlighted several competencies that candidates should possess.
Applicants with previous experience in cash handling, cashiering, or customer service will have an added advantage.
Other key requirements include:
- Basic mathematical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to operate point-of-sale and computerized toll systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights
- Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions and remain on duty for extended periods

Roles and Responsibilities of Toll Attendants
Toll attendants are responsible for managing daily transactions and ensuring motorists pass through toll stations quickly and safely.
Their duties include:
- Collecting toll payments using cash, debit cards, credit cards, or electronic systems
- Providing accurate change and issuing receipts
- Checking electronic toll passes and resolving payment discrepancies
- Reconciling cash drawers at the end of each shift
- Keeping accurate records of all transactions
Additionally, attendants assist motorists by providing directions and essential travel information.
They are also expected to report suspicious activities, traffic incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors while ensuring compliance with safety rules and operational procedures.
Maintaining a clean and organized toll booth is also part of their responsibilities.
Nairobi Expressway Toll Charges
The job announcement comes months after the government approved an increase in toll charges for motorists using the expressway.
In 2024, the Ministry of Transport raised toll fees by 50 percent, with the approval formalized through a Kenya Gazette notice signed by former Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Motorists traveling from Westlands to Mlolongo now pay KSh 500 for a one-way trip.
Meanwhile, drivers traveling between Mlolongo and Haile Selassie Avenue pay KSh 410.
Future Toll Plans in Kenya
As tolling becomes more common on major highways, the government is also working on expanding the Nairobi–Mau Summit highway through a public-private partnership.
Under the proposal, passenger cars will pay KSh 8 per kilometre during the first year of operation.
Heavy commercial vehicles are expected to pay higher fees.
The project also recommends the use of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems to reduce congestion and prevent revenue leakage.
