Ndindi Nyoro Deletes Old Tweet Praising Sudan’s Hemedti After Online Backlash

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has deleted a 2023 post that resurfaced on social media and sparked outrage among Kenyans. The tweet appeared to express admiration for Sudanese paramilitary leader General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti.

In the post, Nyoro wrote, “Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), the commander of RFS. We are African and Africa is our business.” The message, originally shared before Sudan plunged into full-scale war, quickly circulated again after users highlighted Hemedti’s controversial role in the conflict.

Hemedti commands the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group accused of widespread human rights abuses during Sudan’s violent power struggle. The RSF has been battling the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since 2023, in clashes that have devastated Khartoum and spread across the country.

International observers and human rights organizations have accused Hemedti and his forces of committing atrocities, including acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing. The conflict has killed thousands and displaced millions.

Following the backlash, Nyoro deleted the post without issuing a public statement. The move has fueled further discussion online about the role of public figures in expressing support for controversial international actors.
