NPSC Confirms New Guidelines Ahead of 10,000 Police Constables Recruitment Drive

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has released new guidelines for the recruitment of 10,000 police constables. Interested candidates should start preparing now.

In a statement released on September 5, the Commission confirmed it has introduced new rules to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.

“These rules are to ensure the recruitment is merit-based, transparent and streamlined,” the statement read.

The Commission also disclosed that the roadmap for the whole exercise has been approved and is ready to kick off immediately. Successful recruits will report to designated training institutions by the end of the year.

“The Commission also considered and approved the roadmap and instruments to facilitate the immediate start of the recruitment exercise,” the statement added.

This comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the government will announce the recruitment date within a week.

“By Monday, we will know the day we will start the recruitment,” Murkomen said during the OCS Consultative Conference at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong on September 4.

President William Ruto had earlier said the exercise will take place in September. During an NYS pass-out parade in Gilgil on August 28, the Head of State said 4,000 of the new officers will be drawn from the National Youth Service.

“I have instructed the Ministry of Interior to recruit 10,000 police officers next month (September) and 4,000 of them must come from the National Youth Service,” Ruto said.

Murkomen had announced the recruitment plans in July saying it will be within the current 2025/2026 financial year and will start within two months.

The Commission also announced the election of Prof. Collette Suda as the new Vice-Chairperson of NPSC. She will oversee the recruitment process.
