Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Beth Wahito of Nyandarua County died on Saturday night in a road accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
She was traveling back home from a budget committee meeting in Naivasha at around 11:00 p.m.
Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo, while providing details of MCA Beth Wahito accident explained her vehicle was knocked by a Guardian Angel bus as she attempted to cross the road at an intersection.
She was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Her car wreckage was subsequently towed to Naivasha Police Station for analysis.
MP Waiganjo, in a press release, paid respects to Wahito’s leadership and dedication. “She lived boldly, with strength and determination. She was never afraid to speak up about what she knew was right and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the underprivileged in her community,” he said, passing condolences to her family and constituents.
Wahito was an experienced political leader in Nyandarua County, with approximately 30 years of experience.
She had also worked in various leadership roles, such as for the Democratic Party as well as chairperson for NARC-Kenya in Nyandarua. More recently, she served as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Kinangop coordinator.
The authorities have launched an inquiry into the conditions of the accident. More information is to come as police continue with further questions.
