ODM’s Caleb Amisi Calls on Raila to Ditch Ruto-Led Government

ODM’s Caleb Amisi Calls on Raila to Ditch Ruto-Led Government

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has asked ODM party leader Raila Odinga to pull out of the broad-based government with President William Ruto, saying Kenya needs political rebirth.

In a frank statement on Friday, July 11, Amisi said Raila’s national conclave can only work if led by statesmen—and Ruto is not one of them.

He told Raila to instruct ODM leaders who had joined government to step back from the current arrangement and help remove President Ruto.

“Dear Baba, Raila Odinga, my party leader in ODM, you know the respect I have for you, rooted in your fight for the freedoms Kenyans enjoy today,” Amisi said. “The most meaningful way to have intergenerational dialogue is by pulling out the remaining ODM leaders from government and join in removing Kasongo,” he added.

Amisi accused Ruto of causing irreparable harm to the country, saying his government has become deaf to the cries of ordinary Kenyans due to bad governance.

In his appeal, Amisi told Raila he owes nobody anything and urged him to make a bold move that will secure his legacy in Kenya’s history.

“You owe nobody anything and Kenyans already revere your record. But this could be your greatest legacy,” he said.

Amisi also referenced Raila’s past political alliances with former presidents, warning that the current alliance with Ruto might be the most dangerous yet, threatening national stability.

In May, Ruto and Raila signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aligning UDA and ODM under a ten-point agenda. The agreement aimed to address major national issues including high cost of living, unemployment, corruption, public debt, peaceful protests and constitutional integrity.

Despite its goals, the pact has been heavily criticized with dissent growing within ODM ranks over the party’s closeness to Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
